Fernando’s journey is a testament to the power of persistence and the impact of unwavering support. When he first came to our program, he was facing homelessness and struggling with habits that were holding him back from building a stable future. He was unemployed and uncertain, unsure if he was ready to make the changes necessary for a better life. But deep down, he knew that he was capable of more.
That’s when Fernando enrolled in our Journey-to-Self Sufficiency (JTS) program. With guidance from his case manager and a dedicated mentor, he began addressing his immediate needs, such as food, hygiene items, and employment support. Each step forward was a small victory, and with our help, Fernando gradually found the strength to commit to the changes that would lead him toward stability.
One of the turning points in Fernando’s journey came when he joined Bracken’s Kitchen. This culinary training program became the perfect fit for him, giving him the opportunity to gain valuable skills while further developing his confidence. Fernando threw himself into the program with determination, and after hard work and dedication, he proudly graduated, a milestone that represents his growth and commitment to change.
Today, Fernando stands as a true example of resilience. Not only has he secured stable housing in an apartment, but he is also employed and building a career in the culinary field. His success is a direct result of his hard work, the support he received through JTS, and his unyielding drive to create a better future for himself.
As his case manager said, “Fernando is where he is today because of the great skills and strengths he already had, which we were able to nurture through our program. He has accomplished so much, continues to do so, and his journey is inspiring, even to me.”
