StandUp for Kids – Orange County
Last week on July 17th our good friends from the CarMax Costa Mesa location came out to the Anaheim Center to volunteer their time with the youth and bring a check in the amount of $10,000 to support StandUp for Kids. CarMax has been supporting the cause of ending the cycle of youth homelessness with StandUp for Kids each year for the last eight years.
Eight to ten staff members, including Sales Manager Joey Caires and General Manager Mark Diggs, came out for a night of mentoring and games to bond with the youth (age 12 – 18) at our Anaheim mentoring location. The youth and the CarMax employees did large and small group activities and were able to give a new adult perspective on different topics curated by the StandUp for Kids team. Topics of discussion in the small groups ranged from immigration to Area 51 (do aliens really exist?). The night closed with some interactive games with the kids.
Per Joey of CarMax,“The event was amazing! It was a pleasure interacting with children and StandUp for Kids staff. We’re proud supporters and look forward to a continuing partnership to help the kids of Orange County.”
A big thank you to CarMax for their support both financially and through their volunteering. If you or your organization would like to work with StandUp for Kids to end the cycle of youth homelessness please reach out to Mike Olson ([email protected]) and he’ll help you get started.
