StandUp for Kids – Orange County
Each month, StandUp for Kids – Orange County likes to shine a spotlight on the work of our volunteers, donors, mentors, and partners. We do this because the impact we make daily for homeless and at-risk youth is only made possible by their contributions.
This month, StandUp for Kids would like to recognize the work and support of our partner, Community Action Partnership of Orange County.
Since its inception in 1965, Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAP OC) has worked tirelessly to address poverty, social justice, and racial equity within the community. They have done so by stabilizing and sustaining those in need by providing the necessary resources required to progress.
For CAP OC and its Director of Community Services and Partnerships, Dolores Barrett, it’s about empowering those who find themselves in less fortunate circumstances by allowing them to take control of their situation.
“We can feel better about our circumstances if we have more power, control, and knowledge about what we can do with what we have,” says Barrett.
CAP OC offers community services to help cover basic needs like food and rental assistance and initiatives to prevent homelessness. One notable program – their OC Food Bank – targets hunger and malnutrition amongst low-income families and individuals.
CAP OC also operates three family resource centers that seek to integrate child, workforce, and family development. For several years now, CAP OC has supported StandUp for Kids – Orange County by providing us with the use of their Anaheim Independencia Family Resource Center. Our partnership has allowed us to provide school-aged youth with mentoring, tutoring, entrepreneurship, and STEM programs in a safe and welcoming environment.
Without facilities like the Anaheim Independencia Family Resource Center, we would be unable to do the work that we do and make the impact we have made with homeless and at-risk youth.
StandUp for Kids – Orange County, is thankful for the support from Community Action Partnership of Orange County to help end the cycle of youth homelessness.
