Despite these 80-degree temperatures in Southern California, there’s no denying that the autumn season is upon us. Autumn brings a lot to celebrate: cooler weather, beautiful scenery, Halloween and furthermore, Thanksgiving. There’s certainly a lot to be excited about at this time of year.
However, for us here at StandUp For Kids, it’s about so much more than being able to wear warmer clothes and seeing the pretty-colored leaves. Here are some of the things we have going on this Fall:
- Dia de los Muertos – First on the agenda, Anaheim site coordinator Denisze Zermeno will be teaching the children about the significance of Dia de los Muertos and its relation to Halloween. “It’s important that we honor the loved ones that aren’t with us anymore,” Denisze explained. “There’s so much more to it than dressing in costumes and getting candy.” It will undoubtedly be a fun, informative event for the children that encourages them to understand the significance of this time of year for different cultures.
- Thanksgiving – Following our Dia de los Muertos celebration and dressing up in our most creative Halloween costumes, we’re able to take the opportunity on Thanksgiving to reflect upon and give thanks for all of the great things that happened this year. Our organization has taken significant steps forward all year and we feel so blessed to represent these amazing children that have been working hard towards their goals. We’re absolutely thrilled to see everyone get into the giving spirit.
- Giving Tuesday – Shortly after Thanksgiving, we celebrate an annual campaign known as #GivingTuesday. Giving Tuesday is a movement that encourages participants all over the world to come together and give back to a cause that is important to them. This year, Giving Tuesday takes place on November 27 and everyone can get in on the action. Join in by donating and sharing information about your favorite causes on social media.
No matter the reason, this season has something for everyone and we’re excited to see what’s in store.
We’re so thankful to have you standing with us!
